Abstract

275,231. Aktiebolaget Ljungstr÷ms Angturbin. July 31, 1926, [Convention date]. Regenerators; valves, reversing.-In regenerators of the type having a fixed regenerative mass with channels extending therethrough from one side to the other arranged within a casing divided into two passages by partitions on each side of the regenerative mass the frame carrying the regenerative mass has the shape of a body of revolution and the partitions, which are positively connected with each other are adapted to oscillate to connect the channels alternatively with the passages for the different fluids. Figs. 1 and 2 show the regenerative mass 2 comprising alternate plane and corrugated plates filling two opposite sectors of a cylindrical frame 3 fixed within the casing 1. Plates 4 close the sectors of the frame 3 which are not filled with regenerative material and the plates may be formed as rotary dampers for by-passing the fluids. The partitions 9, 9 are attached to a common shaft 10 extending centrally through the regenerative mass and are continuously oscillated between the positions A-A, B-B. Fans 11, 12 for forcing the heat absorbing fluid and drawing the heat delivering fluid through the regenerator are fixed on a shaft 13 mounted in a bearing 14 rotatably mounted in the shaft 10 and bearing tightly against the partition 9. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the fluids pass radially through a fixed annular mass covered on its plane surfaces, the partitions 9, 9 being connected by parts 9<c> and a plate 17 movable with the partitions covering the central hollow space of the annulus. By arranging one partition off-set with respect to the other passages of different area can be provided for the two fluids. For cleaning the regenerative mass an apertured pipe can be provided in the edges of the partitions directed towards the mass, through which cleansing medium is blown against the mass, which may consist of pipes or rods of metal, glass or other material. Specification 162,250 is referred to.
