Abstract

559,627. Variable condensers. FABER, A. Aug. 26, 1942, No. 11999. [Class 37] A condenser comprises one fixed electrode 1 co-operating with a shorter fixed electrode 3, through a layer 2 of dielectric, there being associated with the electrode 3 a further movable electrode 4 so arranged as to vary the capacity. In the example, this is effected by screwing the latter into and out of the fixed electrode 3. An example is described in which three concentric condensers of this type are arranged to be varied simultaneously, the centre one only bearing a screw thread, the others being moved accordingly by a common insulating disc head. The electrodes are made of a material comprising two substances of positive and negative or relatively low coefficient of expansion with temperature, mixed to give a zero or other desired low coefficient, for example of powdered metal mixed with coal, graphite, silicon or a silicate.
