[Class 106 (ii)] An instrument for determining the roughness of surfaces, of the kind in which relative movement takes place between a tracing member in the form of a fine pointed stylus a and the surface f to be tested, so that vertical movements of the tracing member indicate the roughness, is characterized by a support for the tracing member consisting of a sharp-pointed stylus d similar to the tracing member and resting on the surface to be tested at a point appropriately spaced from the tracing member.
