Abstract

559,586. Supports for gun barrels. VIALE, S. M. Aug. 7, 1941, No. 10062. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] A self-centering support for gun barrels, which is unaffected by expansion due to heat or by deflections due to vibration, comprises a housing 14 containing alternate sets 17, 18 of split rings with interengaging wedge surfaces pressed together by an axial spring 19 so that one set is pressed radially inwards towards the barrel 10 and the other radially outwards towards the housing 14. As shown, the housing is carried in a sleeve 13 attached to a member 12 sliding on a cradle or guide 11.
