Aug. 6,1942, No. 10993 [Class 6 (iii)] In a swath-turner in which groups of tines 9 are driven through bevel and sun-and-planet gearing direct from the axle 2, the tines 9 together with the casings 7 of the sun-and-planet gearing are adapted to be swung upwardly when not in use, and lowered for use, by the operation of a lever 17 and, in the lowered position, are spring-loaded to resist upward movement. As shown, the saddle castings 6 are connected by chains 13 and tension springs 14 with two-armed levers 12 on a shaft 11 connected through toothed quadrants 15, 16 with the lever 17. Lugs 21 on curved brackets 20 engage a frame member 1a to limit the downward movement. The tines may be heavier spring-loaded by further operation of the lever after the downward movement has been arrested by the lugs. A catch 18 on the lever is engaged in notches 19 to retain the parts in the raised or lowered position. The.lugs 21 may be dispensed with and the chains 13 limit the downward movement. In a modification, compression springs are arranged on rods, connected to the upper ends of the levers 12 and passing freely through the upper part of the castings 6, stop nuts being provided on the free ends of the rods. The upward movement may be assisted by a counterweight. Specification 556,719 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
