Sept. 23, 1942, Nos. 13393/42 and 1585/43: [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Groups V and XXXIX] In making telephone or like contact plugs of the kind comprising concentric conductors 1, 2, 3, Fig. 1, separated by thermosetting or thermoplastic synthetic resin or other insulating material 9, 10, which is forced between the conductors while in a plastic state, the proper concentricity of the conductors is ensured by inserting into the annular spaces between contiguous conductors, prior to the injection of the material 9, 10, solid insulating tubular spacing members 7, 8 each having a collet-like head. Fig. 1 shows a contact plug after it has been shaped by turning, the end of the tip conductor 1 having been expanded and the tip 4 having been secured by riveting. The dead ring 5 surrounds an insulating sleeve 6 ; in a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the dead ring may be constituted by the head of the spacing member 7. The members 6, 7, 8 may be moulded from synthetic resin and the members 7, 8 may have longitudinal slots to lock them to the material 9, 10 ; or they may be made of mechanically strong material coated with insulating varnish.
