Abstract

559,089. Iron compounds. WELLCOME FOUNDATION, Ltd., and GORVIN, J. H. Aug. 4, 1942, No. 10839. [Class 1 (iii)] [Also in Groups IV and VI] Complex iron compounds suitable for injection are obtained by combining together ferric iron, metallic or nitrogenous base and a pyridine 2: dicarboxylic acid, in particular chelidamic or dipicolinic acids. The combination may be effected by solution of ferric hydroxide in a solution of the acid followed by addition of the base, by reaction of an alkaline earth salt of the acid with a mixture of ferric sulphate and a sulphate of the base or with a double sulphate of ferric iron and the base, or by reaction of a soluble salt of the acid with freshly precipitated ferric hydroxide. Bases mentioned in the Specification include ammonium, sodium, triethanolamine, ptoluidine, tetra-ethyl ammonium, silver, quinoline, quinine. The proportions of the basic to other reactants are adjusted so as to produce neutrality. The compounds produced after evaporation of their solutions are crystalline or amorphous bodies.
