Abstract
1283900 Therapeutically useful compounds LABORATOIRE ROGER BELLON 17 July 1969 [18 July 1968] 15545/72 Divided out of 1282896 Heading C2C Novel compounds of molecular formula C 13-16 H 11-17 NO 5 containing an alkyl radical of 1-4 C on the N atom and a carboxylic acid group (or a salt derivative thereof) which are obtainable by the following process are described. An amine I is reacted with ethyl ethoxymethylene-malonate to form a compound II: and this is then cyclized by heating with POCl 3 and hydrolysing the chloro-compound obtained with CH 3 COONa in CH 3 COOH. The N atom is then alkylated with a C 1-4 alkyl halide or ester followed by saponification with an alkali metal hydroxide or alternatively the saponification is effected prior to the alkylation . Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the novel compounds together with suitable excipients and are useful as antibacterial agents.
