Abstract
558,986. Chromium compounds. UDY, M. J. June 11, 1942. No. 8009. [Class 1 (iii)] An alkali metal chromate or bichromate, obtained by oxidizing chromite ore in presence of alkali is heated with carbon, with or without an addition of calcium oxide, to reduce the chromium to the trivalent state. The product is extracted with water, and from the solution is recovered alkali metal hydroxide or carbonate which is used for the treatment of further quantities of chromite ore. The solid residue consists of chromic oxide or calcium chromite, which may be oxidized again to produce calcium chromate or bichromate.
