Abstract
558,664. Route indicators. BOOTH, J. I. June 9, 1942, No. 7838. [Class 146 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] A route indicator for vehicles comprises a casing for attachment to the dashboard, a pair of spools mounted therein, a flexible band camed by the spools, and a manually operated member for moving the band in one or other direction through clutch devices associated with the spools. The band has a series of pictures, which may be photographs, of the road junctions to be encountered and indications of the direction to be taken and place names on the route. The band as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, is mounted on slotted spools 35 arranged on a U-shaped frame 21 in a casing 10 and passes over guide rollers 51 behind a glass panel 11. The spools are held in position by conical studs 33 Fig. 5 on a hinged top plate 30 which when raised facilitates the removal and replacement of the band. The other end of the spools engage projections 43 on ratchet or clutch discs 42 Figs. 5 and 6 which with balls 44 form free wheel drives for the spools. The balls 44 are carried by gear wheels 45 in mesh with a gear 46 on the manipulating handle 47. The casing 10 is attached to the dashboard of the vehicle by means of a metal strap 15 and stud 14. To the metal strap is pivoted a yoke 27 with a screw 28 to engage a recess in the bottom plate of the frame 21 to hold the frame in position.
