Abstract

558,500. Cotters. WASSELL, R. W., and RIDER, T. R. Aug. 28, 1942, No. 12114. [Class 89 (ii)] Cotter pins are made from resilient material bent up into circular form with an open seam A so that on insertion they grip the walls of the hole tightly and they are formed at one or both ends with a spring lip B that engages the side of the bolt &c. and renders the pin self-retaining. On depression of the lip by a tool the pin may be withdrawn without damage in a condition suitable for re-use. The pins may have a head at one end and be formed from solid material or of half-round material in solid or hollow form. Hollow pins bent up from sheet metal may have the spring lips formed on one side of the pin and bent up to protrude through holes in the other. The upper portion of the spring lips may be knurled at C to afford a grip when depressing the lips to extract the pins
