558,414. Self-locking nuts. SIMMONDS, O. E. Dec. 18, 1942, No. 18037. [Class 89 (i)] Self-locking nuts of the kind in which a separately formed locking member is housed within a recess in the body of the nut, the locking member having a flexible diaphragm portion, with a thread of the same pitch as that of the nut but out of phase therewith, and a rim portion by which it is secured to the body against both axial and rotary movements, have the diaphragm portion provided with a series of radial ribs or corrugations 7 to cause pressure to occur at the junction of the diaphragm with the rim. The formations 7 may be impressed after assembly of the nut and extend into the body of the nut with a further keying effect. The wall 3 of the body, defining the recess, may be flanged over the diaphragm or the latter may have an upstanding flange that is welded to the body flange. Specification 557,351 is referred to.
