Abstract
558,150. Regenerating waste edible fats and oils. LYONS & CO., Ltd., J., and SYLVESTER. N. D. May 11, 1942, No. 6346. [Class 91] Waste edible fats and oils, such as frying oils, are regenerated by passing a solution thereof in a solvent through a column of a material possessing chromatographic adsorptive properties, such as activated alumina, and subsequently treating the solution with an antioxidant. A small proportion of the latter is added to the solution which is then allowed to stand for a few hours; the anti-oxidant may be removed from the solution or allowed to remain, a vegetable anti-oxidant being preferably removed, such as by filtration. Soya flour and oatmeal are specified, 5 per cent. by weight of the fat content of the solution being employed. The solvent is finally removed, such as by distillation. Alternatively, the solvent may be removed prior to the treatment with the antioxidant. Petroleum spirit is specified in sufficient volume to produce a 5 to 10 per cent. solution. The regenerated fats and oils may be deodorised by usual steam treatment.
