Abstract

557,851. Washing-machines. WILSON, E. G. June 4, 1942, No; 7581. [Class 15 (i)] Relates to apparatus of the revolvable drum type for treating materials with liquids, especially washing pieces of hides, skins, and fleshing to be used in the manufacture of gelatine, and consists in the provision, around the interior of the drum, of open used-water channels, spaced apart and extending longitudinally of the drum, combined with sieves or screens to prevent pieces of the materials entering the open side of the channels, provision being made for the discharge of used liquid from the channels during rotation of the drum. Six of these devices may be used, each comprising a shelf 9 and connected lengths 10, 11, forming with a notched member 18 a used-water channel extending longitudinally of the drum. A comb 16 of stainless steel is held in a rubber backing strip 17 pressed into a notch in the member 18 by wedges 19 actuated by a right- and-left screw 21. An opening 14 is made in an end wall of the drum whence used water can pass away by openings 29, 23. The opening 29 is in a sleeve 26 with two internal threads 27, 28 either of which is adapted to be closed by a felt plug coated with wax, according as the used liquid is to be released or retained.
