[Class 125 (ii)] A machine for filling bottles or cans with liquids has a distributing head 8 rotatable over a stationary frusto-conical head 3 which receives the liquid and has a feed outlet 6 with which a number of delivery ports 10 communicating with discharge nozzles 12 provided on the distributing head are adapted to communicate in turn so that the liquid is discharged into the bottles or cans 24 moving under the distributing head substantially in unison therewith, the liquid entering into each one of a group of adjacent cans or bottles successively and before the leading preceding can or bottle of the group is completely filled; the head 3 is supported by a fixed vertical spindle 4 carrying a rotatably driven sleeve 13 on which is mounted a member 9 vertically adjustable thereon and having a driving connection 15, 15a with the head 8 while the sleeve 13 also carries means, e.g. radial arms 29, rotatable therewith and adapted to engage the moving bottles and position them in register with the nozzle 12 as the latter come into communication with the outlet 6 in the head 3. As shown the head 3 is fed from a pipe 2 connected thereto and provided with a feed control valve 22 and a cut-off valve 23 and the heads are retained in close rotational contact by springs 18 located on pins 17 between the head 8 and a plate 16 slidable on the pins 17 and adusted by lock nuts 20 on the pipe 2 through the medium of a ball thrust bearing 19. The bottles are traversed between guides 28 by an endless band 25 within the return bend of which the filling head is located; the endless band and sleeve 13 with the head 8 may be driven by a sprocket 26 keyed to the sleeve. A stationary tray 31 collects any drip from the delivery nozzle and leads it to the approaching empty bottles.
