Abstract

556,950. Apparatus for making ropes, cords &c. CANTRELL, H., JACKSON, T., and HOWARTH, W. April 25, 1942, No. 5567. [Class 109] A throat or die for use in the turning head of a rope-making machine comprises a series of plates 1 each having a circular aperture therein and means for clamping the plates together with the apertures aligned to form a tube. The discs may be held in a sleeve 5 having an internal flange 6 at one end and screw-threaded at the other end to receive a cap 10. The apertures in the discs decrease repeatedly in diameter from one end of the tube and may again increase from a point near the other end. The apertures may have rounded edges, and the aperture of the disc at the inlet end of the tube may be more rounded at the inlet side than the other side. A pin 9 mounted in a flange 7 engages a slot in the turning head so that the die is rotated. Ropes, lines and cords may be made of cellulose acetate or other organic derivatives of cellulose stretched as described in Specification 543,674, [Group IV].
