Abstract

556,931. Cellulose-derivative and synthetic- resin articles. ADAMSON, H. June 25, 1940, No. 10846. [Classes 2 (ii) and 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XXI] . A cartridge belt guide of arched form is formed of inner and outer walls 2, 3 of plastic sheet material reinforced internally to render the guide rigid, the end walls, also of plastic sheet material, being autogenously secured as by cement to the edges of the inner and outer walls. In the form shown, the walls 2, 3 are made by embedding tinned or galvanized steel wire mesh between sheets of transparent plastic material such as cellulose acetate, and opaque end walls 1 are secured thereto by a cement which is a solvent for the cellulose acetate. Gaps 8, 9 assist in threading the belt, and metal end attachment pieces 12, 13 are provided. A suitable cement consists of acetone 85, benzyl alcohol 10 and ethyl lactate 5 per cent. In place of cellulose acetate, other cellulose esters such as cellulose acetate-butyrate and cellulose acetate-propionate may be used. Synthetic resins may also be used, such as polyvinyl compounds, e.g., polymethyl methacrylate, and polyamides formed by the condensation of dicarboxylic acids with diamines.
