Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0820329/IV (a)/1> wherein one of R and R1 is -(CH2)mCH3 and the other is -(CH2)nCH3 or -CO(CH2)nCH3, where m and n are 0 to 17 and n + m equals 7 to 17, are prepared by reacting cresols or n-alkyl phenols with aliphatic carboxylic acids in the presence of boron trifluoride to give acyl-n-alkyl-phenols, which may if desired be reduced to the di-n-alkyl-phenols with H2 and a catalyst.
