Abstract
556,714. Screw and nut actuators. WESTLAND AIRCRAFTS, Ltd., PETTER, W. E. W., and SWAFFIELD, P. J. March 13, 1942, No. 3354. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Remote apparatus, e.g. elevators, flaps, tabs and fuel cocks on an aeroplane, are moved by a small reversible motor b driving a reciprocating member through high ratio reduction gearing and a wheel j screw threaded to engage a non-rotatable jack-shaft a. Limit switches cut out the motor at both ends of travel of the shaft a, and the position of the shaft may be indicated at a remote location by a rheostat operated by the shaft co-operating with a remote voltmeter &c. The left hand end of the shaft u may be provided with a centrifugal brake to prevent overspeeding or with an electrically released brake to hold the shaft stationary except when the motor is energized. Specification 406,861 is referred to.
