Abstract

556,678. Filtering media. JOBLING & CO., Ltd., J. A., COX, S. M., and GOSS, R. J. Aug. 12, 1942, No. 11287. Drawings to Specification. [Class 46] Filter bodies consisting of superposed layers of fine and coarse glass particles are made by depositing fine particles from a liquid suspension of slurry on a layer of coarse sintered particles under conditions which expedite settling and promote random contacts of the particles and drying and baking the deposited layer. A slurry of fine particles may be made in anyl-acetate, acetone or trichlorethylene and kept in a state of agitation and the coarsegrained plate lowered on to the surface of the slurry. Liquid is drawn by capillary attraction into the plate leaving a film of fine powder on the surface, the thickness of the film being controlled by the temperature and the time of immersion. In the case of water of other ionising liquid in the slurry, the pH value is a controlling factor. Graphs are given showing indirectly the influence of some of the controlling factors. Specification 450,193 is referred to.
