Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an ultrafiltration element which does not contain any organic material and has superior heat resistance and solvent resistance by firing colloidal alumina on a porous substrate.
CONSTITUTION: Ceramic or sintered body of corrosion resistant metal powder is used for the porous substrate in order to maintain heat resistance and pressure resistance and its shape is preferably cylindrical. Colloidal alumina is coated on the inside or outside surface of this porous substrate and is fired at ≤100°C in order to maintain smoothness. Thence, this is at fired ≥200°C, preferably ≥350°C in order to impart ultrafiltration characteristic to the colloidal alumina. Fine pores are formed in the alumina layer as it undergoes the firing process and this produces ultrafiltration characteristic in the element.
