Abstract

556,547. Valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 30, 1941, No. 10465/43. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1940. Divided out of 556,520, [Group XXI]. [Class 135] A valve device for connecting a working port either to pressure or to exhaust has a tubular valve member actuated by fluid pressure under the control of an auxiliary valve. This valve controls a passage through the tubular valve and is actuated by electromagnetic means acting on an armature slidably mounted on its spindle. As shown, the main valve has a larger diameter portion slidable in a bore 33 and a smaller diameter portion slidable in a bore 34 the inclined shoulder between these two parts co-operating with a seat 60 to seal the pressure inlet port 28 from working port 30. In the position shown slots 54 in the smaller diameter part connect the working port with the exhaust port 32 but when the valve is moved to the left the port 32 is blanked off and the slots 54 connect the ports 28, 30. The fluted auxiliary valve has a limited sliding movement in the larger diameter portion and is normally held in contact with its seat which has a restricted aperture by a uno-helical spring 76. A spindle 68 with a head 70 is secured to the auxiliary valve and slidably supports a fluted armature 72 for a solenoid 44. The solenoid is secured by a nut 48 and member 46 about a flanged tubular member 38 secured by a cap-nut 40 to the main valve casing. When the solenoid is de-energized inlet pressure leaking through a restricted passage 78 holds the main valve in the position shown. When energized, the armature is moved against the action of a light spring 74 to impart a hammer blow to the head 70. This opens the auxiliary valve to connect the chamber 85 to exhaust and permit inlet pressure acting on the shoulder 86 to move the main valve to the left.
