Abstract
556,231. Automatic volume control. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 11, 1942, No. 12841. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1941. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] An attenuation equalizer suitable for correcting the distortion in a pilot channel in a multichannel telephone system arising from passage through a narrow band-filter comprises a series arm containing a piezo-electric crystal X and a resistance R in parallel, the crystal having a resonance at or near the middle of the frequency band. If a second series arm is used the impedance of each is halved. In order to allow for manufacturing variations of the crystal and to permit adjustment of the characteristics of the equalizer, a variable resistance R<SP>1</SP> may be connected in series with the crystal. A shunt resistance may be added to either or both ends of the equalizer for impedance-matching.
