Abstract

555,740. Feeding containers. ABBEY, A. (Bliss & Co., E. W.). March 2, 1942, No. 2755. [Class 78 (i)] Containers, such as tin cans, are fed, from one fabricating. operation to another by sliding them along a table 11 by means of an endless moving belt 45 and a rotating spiral 25 which surrounds the table. The containers are placed on the belt so that they enter between guide rails 55, 56 which bring them between the convolutions of the spiral and then on to the table 11, along which they are pushed by the spiral alone till they reach a head-seaming or other processing device 65, 71, from which a rotating feed-out dial transfers them again to the belt 45, through guides 74, 75, for disposal. The rails 55, 56 are adjustable apart, and .have switch sections 58, 69 at the receiving end, these sections being pivoted at 60, 61 and spring-biassed to prevent jamming should a container not immediately register between a pair of convolutions of the spiral 25. The spiral is fixed to end journal discs both positively driven by gearing from a countershaft and the pitch of the spiral gradually increases toward the delivery end to accelerate the speed of the containers.
