Abstract

555,421. Cleansing compositions. RIDGE, B. P., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 18, 1942, No. 2156. [Class 91] Articles of clothing contaminated with dirt and fatty or oily matter are dry cleaned by treatment with a hydrocarbon or a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent containing 0.1 per cent. to 0.5 per cent. by weight of an ethylamine. The solvents specified comprise white spirit and trichlorethylene; and the ethylamines exemplified comprise diethylamine and mixtures of two or more ethylamines such as mixtures of diethylamine and triethylamine. A specified composition comprises white spirit containing 0.2 per cent. to 0.3 per cent. by weight of diethylamine. Slightly raised temperatures may be used and the process may be applied to cleaning overalls soiled by dirt and linseed oil.
