Abstract

A composition for cleansing articles comprises globular polyvinyl chloride and a chlorinated hydrocarbon, such as trichlorethylene or perchlorethylene. The particles of the polyvinyl chloride have a preferred diameter of 0.5 to 1 m.m. The chlorinated hydrocarbon may be used in emulsified form, such as with water. The compositions may be heated to the boil to cause the filling material to swell and soften.ALSO:Articles are cleaned with a cleansing liquid containing finely divided polyvinyl chloride in globular form. The cleansing liquid is preferably a chlorinated hydrocarbon, such as trichlorethylene or perchlorethylene. The particles of the polyvinyl chloride p have a preferred diameter of 0.5 to 1 mm. The chlorinated hydrocarbon may be used in emulsified form, such as with water. The cleansing preparation may be heated to the boil to cause the filling material to swell and soften and the articles to be cleaned immersed therein. The filling material exerts a scouring action on the articles to remove dust &c. thereon, which together with the polyvinyl chloride particles are easily removed therefrom in a subsequent rinsing step, preferably with the same cleansing liquid.
