Abstract
555,415. Spiked plates. LANGWORTHY, C. F. Feb. 16, 1942, No. 2042. [Class 89 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A compound sheet material light in weight, fireproof and particularly suitable for use in constructing aircraft, vehicle bodies, partitions &c.-consists of a core a of wood pressed between outer metallic sheets b perforated as in Fig. 3 to provide inwardly extending projections d which key into the core and hold the layers together. Steel or aluminium alloy may be used for the metal plates. The fact that the wood projects through the apertures makes the material of use as a non-skidding surface, e.g. for aeroplane runways or for the decking of small high-speed marine craft. The material may be fireproofed and may be curved, shaped or corrugated by curving the dies used in pressing the constituent sheets together. Shaping may also take place after formation of the composite sheet.
