554,634. Fastenings; gudgeon and like pins. AVIATION DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and SPOONER, R. A. W. Jan. 28, 1942, No. 1188. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A gudgeon or like pin is located and held in position by radially movable balls or the like which can be held projected above the surface of the pin by an axially movable spring- loaded member as described in Specification 524,297, Fig. 1 shows a tubular pin 1 of uniform external diameter located and held in the straps 2 of a connecting rod by balls 4 held captive in radial apertures 3 in the part 1 and held projected in engagement with a recess or groove 12 in the strap by an axially movable member 5 retained in the pin1 by a ring 8 against which it is held by a spring 7. When member 5 is pressed inwards towards the left a groove or recess 6 therein registers with the apertures 3 so that the balls can collapse inwards to allow insertion or removal of the pin. Modifications are described having respectively two and three sets of balls spaced apart axially and controlled by two members such as 5, one at each end, with the spring such as 7 disposed between them). The two members 5 may, however, be replaced by a single member as in Fig. 1. The members 5 may be wholly housed in the pin 1 as shown or may have terminal projecting knobs and be arranged so that they must be pulled outwards to register the recesses 6 with apertures 3.
