552,794. Converting. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Feb. 16, 1942, No. 2039. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1941. [Class 38 (ii)] The grids 2 of a gaseous electric discharge device such as a rectifier or inverter 1 are supplied with steep-fronted voltage impulses from a circuit comprising electronic discharge paths 4 in series with resistances 5 across a D.C. source 6, the discharge paths being controlled by two grids to which phase-displaced A.C. voltages from sources 7, 8 are applied. The grids may be in a single tube as shown, or one in each of two series-connected tubes. Alternatively there may be connected in series with each of the resistances 5 two electronic discharge paths in parallel either in the same or in separate tubes, and controlled by separate grids to which phase-displaced voltages are applied. To improve deionization conditions in the main discharge device 1, the electronic discharge devices 4 and resistances 5 may be interchanged with respect to the polarity of the D.C. source, or auxiliary discharge devices which are blocked when the devices 4 are conducting may be connected in parallel with the resistances 5 or directly between the grids 2 and the negative terminal of the source 6.
