Abstract

551,107. Knurling. SALMON, S. F., ELTHAM, D. C., and NAYLOR, F. A. March 9, 1942, No. 3045. [Class 83 (iv)] A knurling device for use in a lathe or other machine has a shank 1 attached to spaced side plates 2, 3 having a series of plain holes 2a in one plate opposed to tapped holes 3a selectively to receive pivots 6 for levers 4 according to the diameter of the work. The levers are curved near the pivoted ends and carry the knurls 10 by pivots that may be removable to permit of changing the knurls, or sets of levers with knurls of different kinds may be provided. Pivoted on the bifurcated end of the lower lever is an eye bolt 7 on which is loosely mounted a transversely drilled roller 8 engaging a recess 4a in the upper lever and acting as a washer to transmit pressure from a wing nut 9. An adjustable stop 14 may be provided to limit the depth of knurling.
