[Classes 2 (ii), 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Azo 'dyes giving dyeings of good dischargeability on cellulose ester or ether or synthetic linear polymer materials, when applied thereto from aqueous dispersion or from solution in organic solvents, are obtained by coupling a diazotized 4-alkoxy-2-amino-benzthiazole with a component. Specified diazo components are the 4-methoxy, 4-ethoxy, 4-isopropyloxy, 4- methoxy-7-methyl and 4 : 7-dimethoxy derivatives of 2-amino-benzthiazole and specified coupling components are aniline, mÀtoluidinep-xylidine, cresidine, 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline, 2 : 5-diethoxyaniline, m-aminoacetanilide, 3- acetylamino - 6 - methoxyaniline, 1 - naphthylamine and its 2-methoxy derivative, N-diethylaniline, N - diethyl - m - toluidine, N - diethyl - m - aminoacetanilide, N - di - (# - hydroxyethyl) - aniline, N - di - (# - hydroxyethyl) - m - toluidine, N - di - (# - hydroxyethyl) - m - - aminoacetanilide, N - ethyl - N - - (p - hydroxethyl) - m toluidine, N - ethyl - N - - (# - sulphatoethyl) - m toluidine, N - diethyl - 3 - acetylamino - 6 - methoxy - aniline, N - ethyl - 1 - naphthylamine N - diethyl - m - stearoyl-, lauroyl- or palmitoyl-amino aniline, Py-tetrahydroquinoline and its 7-methyl-3-hydroxy-N-butyl derivatives, Py-tetrahydro-α-naphthopyridine and its 3 : 7-dihydroxy and 3-hydroxy-N-#-hydroxyethyl derivatives and p-cresol. When the coupling component carries a diazotizable amino group the monoazo dye may be diazotized and coupled in substance or on the material, with a component and, if the latter carries a diazotizable amino group, the disazo product may be similarly diazotized and coupled with a component. The mono-, dis- or tris-azo dyes may be incorporated in lacquers or spinning solutions containing cellulose esters or ethers or synthetic linear polymer materials. Examples relate to the production of the dyestuffs, 4 - methoxy - 2 - amino - benzthiazole- (1) 3 : 7-dihydroxy-py-tetrahydro-α- napthopyridine, (2) cresidine. Examples are also give of the dyeing of cellulose acetate yarn with the dyestuff of (1) and of cellulose acetate fabric with the dyestuff of (2), the dyeing in this case being diazotized and developed with N-diethyl-m-aminoacetanilide. Specification 440,113 is referred to. 4- Alkoxy-2-amino-benzthiazoles and their substitution products specified above are obtained by converting the corresponding o-alkoxyanilines and their substitution products, by reaction with ammonium thiocyanate, into the corresponding thioureas and subjecting these to the action of sulphuryl chloride in chlorobenzene. N-Diethyl-m-stearoylamino-aniline is obtained by reaction of stearic acid chloride on m-amino-N-diethyl-aniline. 3 : 7 - Dihydroxy - py - tetrahydro - α - naphthopyridine is obtained by reaction of 1 . 5-aminonaphthol with epichlorhydrin.
