Abstract

550,053. Grinding or lapping jewels or stones for bearings &c. LEE, F. June 17, 1941, No. 7664. [Class 60] Jewels or stones 28, Fig. 2, for bearings &c. are finished to a predetermined diameter by packing the jewels face to face in slots in a holder or holders 27 so that they hold one another in position with their axes extending parallel to the slots and their rounded faces projecting above and below the faces of the holders and then lapping the rounded sides of the jewels or stones while held in the holders between the flat faces of relatively movable lapping members 20, 21, Fig. 1. The upper member 21 consists of close grained wood surrounded by a vertically adjustable brass ring 22 and is driven by an eccentric pin 26 on the spindle 15 engaging a hole in a metal disc 25. In use, a number of holders 27 are disposed radially on the iron lapping disc 20 and the ring 22 is set to project below the disc 21 so as almost to touch the disc 20 and thereby to retain the abrasive consisting of diamond dust and oil.
