Abstract

549,768. Sparking-plugs. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION and CLEVELAND, F. J. May 26, 1941, No. 8952/42. Divided out of 549,732, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 10, 1942. [Class 7(iv)] [Also in Group XXII] The earthed electrode comprises a metallic element 50 secured in the plug body 47 and having one or more inwardly and downwardly projecting prongs 51, each provided with a pin-like member 52 extending into spark-gap relation with the centre electrode 41. The element 50 may be of ferrous alloy and the pins 52 of platinum, and the elctrode 41 may have a platinum tip 42 fused to a body portion 41 of ferrous alloy, mounted in a moulded ceramic insulator 43 in the manner described in Specification 549,732. A collar 44 of metal such as stainless steel or copper may be shrunk or spray-coated on the insulator, for example by the process referred to in Specification 549,732 the lower end of the collar engaging a gasket 45 on a flange 46 of the body, and a flange 48 being engaged by a nut 49 provided with a radio-shielding barrel.
