549,307. Treating textiles resinous condensation products. BLEACHERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd., KERSHAW, W., WHITELEGG, C. J., and EISIG, G. W. May 21, 1941, No. 6491. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Textile fabrics are rendered water-resistant by treatment with an aqueous composition comprising a protein, e.g. casein or egg albumen, and a fully-condensed non-thermo-hardening polyhydric alcohol-polybasic acid resin, and then insolubilizing the protein with formaldehyde or aluminium formate. Suitable resins are a non-drying oil modified glycerol-phthalic anhydride resin made, for example, by heating together glycerol, phthalic anhydride, oleic acid and castor oil (Ex. 5), and a viscous oil made by heating together triethylene glycol and succinic anhydride (Ex. 6). Loading materials such as china clay and talc, pigments, dyes and waxes such as Japan wax may be incorporated in the composition. A top coating of a urea-formaldehyde-glycerol-phthalic anhydride resin may be applied to the treated fabric.
