Abstract
549,215. Wire stitches. KAMPER, A. M., and GERRARD INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 8, 1941, No. 5993. [Class 89 (ii)] A wire stitch for securing the overlapping parts of the corners of cardboard or wooden boxes &c. is formed of oval or flattened wire whose elongation up to fracture does not exceed 6 per cent. the wire having a major axis 1¢ to 2¢ times the minor axis and being bent with the major axis substantially parallel to the surface of the material secured. Such a stitch contacts a larger area and sinks less into the surface of wood than a round wire stitch. The wire may be formed from hard unannealed round steel wire by a single draw as by rolling. The wire may have an elongation up to fracture not exceeding 5 per cent. The ends may be cut off square so as to assist the cutting action on the wood during insertion, or may be chisel shaped.
