548,813. Spring nut or fastener and tool for applying it. TINNERMAN PRODUCTS, Inc. Sept. 22, 1941, No. 12222. Convention date, April 15. [Classes 44 and 89 (i)] [Also in Group XXIII] In fixing relatively fragile parts such as glass, plastics. fibre brand &c. by means of pins, nails, barbed shank or threaded fasteners &c. a spring nut or fastener is employed having a sheet metal body of arched configuration terminating on bearing sections at either side and provided in the crown with spring locking tongues for engaging the bolt or pin. As applied to securing plastic members A, B, the member A being patterned &c. at 3 and that pressure cannot be applied behind the pins &c. 1, 6 to support them, the arched fasteners 10 with spring tongues 15 are applied by a tool, Fig. 5, that grips the ends of the pins at 36 and applies pressure to the crown of the arch at 25 to flatten it spreading the ends 12 and causing the tongues 15 to slide over the shank or snap over the parts or threads to produce a biting in and tensioning action on the shank on removal of the tool. The gripping parts 36 are formed on the splayed ends of the fingers 30 attached to a plunger 26 sliding in a barrel 21, as limited by arm abutment 23, under the control of a spring 37 and handles 28, 40. The coned end 24 of the barrel engages the splayed ends of the fingers to apply the gripping pressure, the parts being in the position shown in Fig. 4 when application is complete.
