Abstract

548,712. Electromagnetic relays. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd., and SNELL, M. S. April 18, 1941, No. 5072. [Class 38 (v)] Instrument-type relays having contacts 3, 7, held together by magnetic attraction, are released or " reset " by magnetic repulsion. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the contact 7 is a permanent magnet which is attracted by the iron contact 3 when the needle 2 approaches sufficiently. To release, a switch 6 is closed, energizing a winding 4 so as to repel the magnet 7. In a modification, both contacts may be magnetized by currents of direction to cause attraction, release being effected by reversing one current.
