Abstract

548,339. Extrusion machines. REDFERN'S RUBBER WORKS, Ltd., and BROWN, F. E. March 4, 1941, No. 17456/40. [Class 87 (ii)] A machine for extruding rubber &c. has a scroll 2 with a single thread at the feed end and a multiple-thread at the delivery end, the volumetric capacity per unit length of the scroll being roughly constant over its whole length. The cross-section of the groove between threads may be constant throughout the length. As shown the scroll 2 is made to taper towards the delivery end and has two threads at that end. The casing is made in separate sections 8, 9, the section 9 tapering in conformity with the scroll. The casing is bolted to a bed plate 20 and is provided with adjusting screws 24 so that it can be moved relatively to the scroll to compensate for wear. Apparatus having a scroll with a single thread at the feed end, a double thread on an intermediate portion and three threads at the delivery end is described.
