[Class 59] [Also in Group XXIV] The upper end of the shaft of a gyratory crusher is suspended by means of a detachable supporting collar so constructed and arranged that the downward pressure exerted by the shaft tends to effect disengagement of the collar when it is desired to free the crusher of material that may have become jammed between the crusher head and concave. The shaft 1 extends upwardly through a bush 4 having a flange 5 resting on a ledge 3 centrally arranged in a supporting spider 2. Surmounting the flange 5 is a swivel bearing consisting of rings .6, 7 with coacting spherical faces. Snugly fitting the shaft is a sleeve 8 with a flange 8a between which and the ring 7 are interposed a pair of yielding cupped washers 9 surrounded by a dust-tight casing 10. Encircling the shaft is a collar 12 made up of a pair of sections 12a, Fig. 2, each of which has a rib 13 with inclined upper surface 13a to correspond with the wall 11a of a recess 11 in the shaft. The outer surface of the collar 12 tapers slightly outwardly in a downward direction to receive a retainer cap 14 adapted to hold the sections in position. The top of the cap has a flange 15 secured to the collar sections by bolts 16. A series of jack-screws 18 extend through the cap 14 and rest on interchangeable shims 17 whereby the clearance between crusher head and concave may be adjusted. A protective shield 19 surrounds the cap and the whole suspension is covered by a removable head 20. To free the shaft, an eye-bolt on a supporting chain is threaded into the upper end of the shaft, the bolts 16 withdrawn and the screws 18 forced against the shims to remove the cap 14.
