Abstract

546,752. Temporary or improvised roads; gratings. IRVING, W. E. Jan. 28, 1941, No. 1138. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1940. [Class 107] Open-mesh grating panels have projecting tongues 2a, 3a and sliding collars 9, 10, 11 for coupling the panels together at their adjacent edges to form 'for example large traffic-bearing surface mats on unmade ground. In the form shown the panels comprise longitudinal bars 1, spaced side bars 2, with gaps 8, and corner bends 3, 4 with gaps 7, the mesh being completed by zig-zag bars 5. The sliding collars 9, 10, 11 which accommodate the thickness of two bars are disposed in positions for passing into the gaps 7, 8 when the edges of the panels are registered for assembly, and the collars are then slid in position to retain the tongues, the engagement being such that play is provided to suit uneven ground. In a modification, the corner pieces are omitted and coupling tongues are provided on the longitudinal bars 1, one side only of the panel being provided with gaps 8.
