Abstract

546,749. Coated paper. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Jan. 28, 1941, No. 1109. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1940. [Classes 96 and 140] [Also in Group XVI] Paper 26 is coated with an emulsion or emulsions 23 containing liquid globules under 1 mm, in diameter of two types 20, 21 capable of reacting when the coating is ruptured by pressure or impact, for instance by being struck by type, to produce a stain 25 in the coating. Two emulsions are prepared and the paper coated with them separately or a single coating may be made of a mixture of the emulsion. The continuous phase of each emulsion may be the same solution of a solid such as gum dammar and a plasticizer such as castor oil, tributyl phosphate, butyl stearate or the di-(para tert-butylphenyl) monophenyl phosphate, e.g. 100 grams of 1:1 solution of gum dammar in toluene, 8.5 grams of the dimono-phenyl phosphate. The discontinuous phase of one emulsion may be composed of 33 grams glycerine, 3À2 grams of ferric ammonium sulphate, 14 grams of water and that of the other emulsion, 33 grams glycerine, 6À4 grams of gallic acid, 14 grams water, the stain resulting from the reaction between the gallic acid and the ferric ammonium sulphate being of a blue-black colour changing to black.
