Abstract

546,497. Motor-cycle wind-shields. CAMPBELL, Sir M. Jan. 15, 1941, No. 587. [Class 136 (i)] [Also in Group XV] A map carrier for use on motor cycles &c. comprises a rectangular metal frame 10, of which the top and bottom members 12, 13, are of U-shape in crosssection, so as to form guideways into which a map, or a transparent case therefor, can be slid from either end. The side-members 14, 15 of the frame are pivoted on a rod 26 carried by a U-shaped bracket 32, and the frame can be clamped in a suitable angular position by wing-nuts 27, 28. The bracket 32 may be secured by clamps 36 to the front forks of a motor cycle, and may have a lug 38 to support a speedometer &c. The map may be enclosed in a case in the form of a flat pocket 40 having at opposite sides of the mouth stops 42, 43, which engage with the carrier-frame and also serve to receive a slip-on cover 44, which is retained by elastic rings 48. The map or its case is retained in the carrier by a hook-member 54, which engages over one end and is connected by a spring 52 to a cross-bar 16 of the frame. The upper frame-member 12 carries a pair of hook-shaped guides 56, 58, into which the map can be slid vertically. The carrier may have an armour-plate on its front face, and may serve as a windscreen.
