Abstract

[Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] The trip of a drop hammer is connected by ropes 5 (Fig. 2) to a suspension bar 4 to which are secured as by welding a number of U-shaped strips 18 that embrace the main suspension pin 17 of a crosshead : 12 being interleaved between laminations thereof. Other pins 13. . . 16 are supported by similar interleaved strips 11 secured to plates 8 connected to the ends of belts. The pins are made from steel tubing and may have a longitudinal slit to impart a cushioned effect in operation or they may be formed of a number of longitudinally slotted tubes telescoped together. In a modification (Fig. 4) the joint pins are drilled from the ends at 33, fitted with nipples 34 for a grease gun, and provided with cross ducts 35 leading to parts of the pins that are of reduced diameter.
