Abstract

545,993. Electric Indicators. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. June 24, 1940, No. 10818. Convention date, July 25, 1939. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Groups XL and XXXVII] A tuning arrangement for radio-receivers comprises a plurality of pretuned elements within the housing of the receiver with a step-by-step mechanism for selecting the pretuned elements, a multi-position step-by-step indicating device separate and spaced from said pretuned elements and selecting mechanisms, and a manually operable control device in proximity to the said indicating device for actuating both the selecting mechanism and the indicating device step-by-step in synchronism. In one arrangement, Figs. 1 and 2 the selecting mechanism 6 is within the housing 1 close to adjustable tuned elements 7 and high frequency sockets 8, and the indicating device 9 and a push-button control device 10 are in an extension 2 of the housing, which also contains a conventional tuning dial with a knob 3. The indications are visible through windows 11, 4. The housing extension also contains a conventional power supply switch and volume control device actuated by a knob 5. The indicator 9 may be as described in Specification 452,806. The selecting mechanism 6, the indicating device 9, and the push-button 10 are interconnected by ratchet mechanism as described in Specification 545,992, [Group XL]. In a modification, Fig. 11, the selecting mechanism 57 is in the casing 52 of the receiver, and the indicating device 6 and pushbutton 54 are in a combined loud-speaker and control unit 53 at a distance from the receiver. The push-button 54 when pressed in against a spring 59 closes a switch 55 connected to a stepby-step device 56 operating the indicating device 6 and to a similar step-by-step device operating the selecting mechanism 57. An independent tuning device 67 is also provided in the receiver and connected by a flexible shaft 68 to a tuning dial 70 operated manually by means of a knob 69 in the distant unit 53.
