Abstract
545,877. Shock-absorbers. DOWTY, G. H. Jan. 13, 1941, No. 481. [Class 108 (iii)] In a combined pneumatic spring and hydraulic damper a hollow plunger 4 communicates with the cylinder through a liquid throttling duct 7 in its head co-operating with a slot or groove 9 in the wall of the cylinder 3, the liquid and air in the plunger being separated by a floatng piston 11. The duct 7 is arranged circumferentially and radial holes 8 run to the throttling orifices 17 which are formed in a one-way spring-controlled lift valve 15. The groove 9 may be formed as a slot in the liner 6.
