544,714. Compound fabrics. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Oct. 23, 1940. No. 15583. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 140] Stiffened laminated fabrics suitable for the manufacture of collars, cuffs, &c. are obtained by bonding two or more cloth laminae by means of a fibre-forming synthetic linear condensation polymer, e.g. polyamides and polyesters as described in Specifications 461.,236, 461,237, 474,999, 535,262, 535,421 and 540,135, [all in Group IV], and U.S.A. Specifications 2,071,250, 2,071,253, and 2,130,948. In examples (1) a fibre 0.002 inch thick of an interpolyamide derived by condensation polymerisation as described in Specification 474,999 from equimolecular parts of hexamethylene diammonium adipate and decamethylene diammonium adipate and decamethylene diammonium sebacate is placed between two layers of cotton broadcloth and the composition pressed between heated plates at 135‹C. for 45 seconds under a pressure of 6,000-8,000 pounds per square inch. (3) A similar compound fabric is obtained using an interlayer comprising cotton muslin impregnated with the condensation product of hexamethylene diammonium adipate and caprolactam as prepared in Specification 540,135.
