Abstract
543,926. Belt-fastening appliances. DOXEY, F., and HAYDEN, Ltd., J. E. March 22, 1941, No. 3907. [Class 80 (i)] Relates to a tongs device of the type described in Specification 459,330, for pressing simultaneously a number of pointed hooks into belt ends. The hooks 9 are adapted to be held in slots 10 in a magazine shaft 7 by a rod 11 inserted through a bore 12. The magazine shaft is mounted in bearings 8 in end frames 1 carried by angle-pieces 2. The belt 17 is held in a clamp 3, 3a, 4. The magazine shaft, which is rotatable, is provided at one or both ends with holes 13 at intervals of 90 degrees to receive a plunger 14, to locate the shaft in the required position. On one side of the shaft, the slots 10 extend throughout its whole length, whereas on the opposite side they extend for only a part of the length the remainder of which comprises a slot 16 wide enough to accommodate hooks already clinched to the belt. If hooks are to be inserted over the entire width of the belt end, the first mentioned side of the magazine is brought opposite the belt, but if hooks are to be inserted only in the outer parts of the belt end, the second-mentioned side of the magazine is used, the already clinched hooks being accommodated in the slot.
