Abstract
543,686. Automatic control systems. NEMET, A. Dec. 11, 1940, No. 17537. [Class 38 (iv)] Power factor.-Two gaseous discharge valves T 1 , T 2 are selectively ignited according to variations in the power factor of a load circuit respectively beyond certain leading and lagging values. The plate current of each valve energizes a relay or coil R 1 , R 2 to effect corrective adjustment of a condenser, inductance or synchronous condenser, for example by controlling a reversible motor. With plate voltages energized in fixed phase relationship to the circuit voltage (or current), control grids of the valves are energized through phase shifting transformers P 1 , P 2 with a voltage and fixed phase relationship to the load current (or voltage) and through phase shifters S 1 , S 2 with a voltage in fixed phase relationship-270 degrees lagging-to the circuit voltage (or current). Separate grids may be used in each valve but by using auxiliary rectifiers V, ... V 4 single grid valves may be employed. The correction is dependent on the load current since current transformers C T provide the ignition voltage. Specification 397,229 is referred to.
