Abstract

543,255. Making screw propeller ; cores and fillings. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. July 10, 1940, No. 11516. Convention date, July 25, 1939. Addition to 542,999. [Classes 83 (i), 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Casting composite articles; patterns.-In making hollow propeller blades as in the parent Specification the deformable core is cast in the interior of the hollow blank. When the blank is ready to be worked on the core, a pattern in three pieces 13, 14, 15 is inserted in the blank, the spaces left are filled with moulding sand, the pattern is removed, the space thus left is filled by casting in lead &c. and, when this has set, the sand is removed. The process is then completed as in the parent Specification. Casting processes.-The metal for the core is preferably poured with the blank in nearly horizontal position at first, the shank being gradually raised as pouring progresses.
