Abstract
543,206. Coating webs ; coated fabrics. ERICSSON TELEPHONES, Ltd., WARD, S. H. D., PARKES, F. H., and COOMBES, C. Oct. 7, 1940, No. 14934. [Class 140] Wide-mesh textile or like fabric is rendered impervious to air or moisture by passing untreated fabric from a roll R through a bath M containing, e.g. cellulose acetate dissolved in acetone or acetone substitute to bridge the interstices with liquid and thence through a drying chamber Q comprising a plurality of sections differing in their degree of heat insulation and' heated by a continuous current of warm air passed through them in the same d'rection as the fabric. Fans P, T assist the circulation of air, and the first chamber is insulated by lagging L<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP> while the outer surface of the second chamber is uninsulated. Baffles V<SP>1</SP>, V<SP>2</SP> prevent air from impinging on the liquid in bath M and the fabric emerges past a hinged flap S. The fabric is ironed by spring-pressed rollers H, J. The fabric is finally dried at room temperature by passing it over one or more rollers U. The fabric is re-rolled on a roller K driven through a spring-pressed friction plate which slips as the diameter of the roll increases and friction brake on roller A keeps the fabric taut. Roller H is diven by an electric motor.
